Bateman aiming to right Wigan wrongs

Wigan back rower John Bateman is determined to win some silverware on Saturday at Old Trafford, after having played in two losing Grand Finals for the Warriors.

Bateman signed for Wigan in 2014, and has also played in a losing World Club Challenge with the club.

“I think I’ve brought some bad luck,” he told Wigantoday.net.

“I’ve played in two Grand Finals, lost them both, and we’ve got some wrongs to right.

“These are the games you dream of playing in as a kid, to play in two already is good, but I want a winner’s ring. “It takes a bit out of you when you lose.”

If Matty Smith scores 11 points or more, we’ll refund your stake as a free bet up to £50.

Bateman was involved in a drunken fracas with team-mates earlier in the campaign.

It is something that he has already put behind him as he focuses on a successful future.

“It’s part of life. Everyone has ups and downs, and that’s what it is,” he said.

“I’m not going to say this-and-that about it because look, it’s happened, it’s gone, and we’ve moved on.

“It is what it is. Wigan pay me to concentrate on playing rugby and that’s what I’m here to do.

“And to be able to play with this bunch of boys, and go to another Grand Final – I’m made up.”
