Barrow Raiders have confirmed that Matty Holmes has signed a two-year deal with them, after joining from amateur club Walney Central.

Raiders coach Paul Crarey believes that the player can shine at Barrow.

“Matty is a young age local lad with huge potential, a strong runner with a great attitude and a big future ahead of him,” he told his club’s official website.

“He trained with us last year but wasn’t quite ready to turn pro but now he feels he is ready which is great news for the club and supporters.

“He was a stand-out player in the local ranks for a few years now and I’ve always rated him. I’ve told him the same as I told all the lads.

“There’s only one rule, we’re not cutting any corners this year. I’m demanding 1000 per cent and nothing less will do. If I’m honest they’re buying in it, big time.”

Holmes himself sees the move as a chance to make the most of his talents as a player.

“I want to fulfill my potential,” he said.

“I want, I guess, what every young player wants. To be as good as I can be.

“I’ve been training preseason with the lads now for a month almost, they’re a cracking set of guys.

“Made me feel dead welcome. Im loving the training. looking forward to playing my first game.”
