Aussie youngster makes Newcastle move

Newcastle Thunder have signed Australian back-rower Ryan Lloyd from North Queensland Cowboys.

Lloyd, 20, hails from Townsville has impressed in the Cowboys Under 20s side that reached the elimination finals of the Holden Cup.

He told the club’s official website: “I’ve always wanted to travel around Europe and the UK and I though if I could play footie there it would be a dream.

“Ben Jeffries put me in contact with a few people and I was lucky enough to end up at Thunder.

“It’s more than I expected, the facilities are great and I couldn’t ask for more. We want to play the best that we can and give ourselves the best chances to win.

“I’m looking to fit into the team well and play good footie. Hopefully we can do well as a team and then look towards the individual accolades.”
