Aston appeals for Eagles to soar

Sheffield coach Mark Aston says the Eagles can’t afford to self-destruct against Bradford tonight.

Sheffield host Bradford this evening and lost 37-30 at home to Workington Town last week.

“We started very well and showed signs of the recovery I’ve been looking for,” Coach Mark Aston said.

“Then we drain our energy by making mistakes, the discipline goes and we go back into the auto-pilot of killing ourselves.

“It’s really, really frustrating because we then pick ourselves up and start playing again, but leave ourselves too much to do. We got out of gaol against Dewsbury and we didn’t last week – we just can’t keep doing it to ourselves.

“Bradford have a new coach, so they’ll all be out to impress him but this is about us, our mentality and how much we want to get through this tough period.

“As I keep saying to the players, this will make us better but we’ve got to keep our belief and confidence by working hard and challenging ourselves against the best teams and hopefully we can come out on top.”

Bradford Bulls had a convincing 54-8 home win over Swinton Lions.

Assistant coach Chev Walker said: “We didn’t really concentrate on them to be honest, we just put it back on ourselves. We needed to respond to that London loss.

“Come game day, the boys were confident and the result just looked after itself. They’d worked hard during the week and had a bit of a spring in their step going into the game and it paid off for us.

“Sheffield are coming off the back of a shock result, so we have to be on our guard this weekend. Teams who get beat generally try to bounce back, as we did last week, so we’ve really got to get out there and get the job done.”
