Leigh coach Adrian Lam says it feels like a ‘dream’ to be sat fourth in the Super League table – but believes they’ve got another ‘two or three’ levels more to reach yet.

The Leopards have enjoyed a stunning season back in Super League so far, currently sat fourth in the ladder, equal on points with third-placed Wigan.

Leigh have won nine games from 14 in Super League so far this term and are in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

Their latest win came against Wakefield at Magic Weekend, with Lam beaming with pride after the game.

He said: “We’ve just gone past halfway through the year now… It is probably a dream for us that we’re sitting in the position that we are but I still feel we’ve got two or three levels to go as a club.

“I want to still build the squad and get players in that can help us be successful so as long as we keep our feet grounded and working hard, we’re heading in the right direction.

“I’ve been around a long time and the minute you get ahead of yourself is the minute you get kicked up the backside but I think we’ve got the group there to manage this process.

“I think even our home games are the most lively and entertaining games to go and watch a game of rugby league at.

“What Derek (Beaumont, owner) has done off the field at the LSV has been unbelievable and it’s making our crowds bigger, but on the field I think we’re equal third now.”

It was a father and son double in Super League at the weekend, with Adrian being named Coach of the Month and his son Lachlan scooping the Player of the Month award.

Adrian said: “It’s good our town to be honest.

“We haven’t had much to cheer about at Leigh (in previous years), but if you are an administrator, player or staff at the moment – the town is buzzing.

“Off the field, if you are turning up to the LSV to watch us, it’s a really good event that they are going to now and the team is doing reasonably well on the field with a lot of improvement left.

“I think it’s a good place to be if you’re a Leigh fan at the moment so we’ve just got to keep that momentum going.”

Leigh will look to make it eight wins on the bounce on Friday night when they welcome Hull FC to the Leigh Sports Village, 8pm kick-off.

Lam added: “For us it is about a week to week proposition of how we can keep developing as a team.

“The scoreboard and ladder takes care of itself if standards are high in training and we keep looking after ourselves and working hard.

“It is just nice to know we are there or thereabouts with a lot of improvement left.”
