Leeds youngster Newman extends his stay
Promising youngster Harry Newman has penned a new three-year contract with Super League champions Leeds Rhinos.
The Huddersfield-born centre was jotted down in the history books back in July when he made his first team debut for Leeds away at Wigan Warriors, becoming the first professional Rugby League player to have been born in the 21st century to feature in a top-flight game.
Newman had a year left to run on his Academy deal but has now upgraded to a three-year first team deal.
Alongside Jack Walker, the 17-year-old had a fantastic debut season in the Rhinos Under-19s squad and has been rewarded with a full-time deal.
And the former Newsome Panthers junior player is over the moon to have signed a professional deal.
He said: “I am very proud to have signed a first team contract with Leeds Rhinos.
“This season it has been inspirational to see how well Jack Walker has done and Leeds have a history of giving young players a chance if they prove they are good enough.
“I owe a massive debt of thanks to my old coach at Newsome Panthers, Darren Fleary. He made the Rhinos aware of me when I was younger and that was the break I needed to get noticed by Leeds.
“Training alongside people like Kallum Watkins, Joel Moon and Liam Sutcliffe will be massive for my development in the next few years and hopefully, I can make the most of any opportunities that come my way.”
