The Last Tackle: Episode 26 – Saints and Sinners

The Super 8s have begun and they might have just blown the race to Old Trafford wide open!

Thursday night saw the table topping Castleford Tigers take on St Helens at the Mend-a-hose Jungle, a place the Tigers have made a fortress this season but Justin Holbrook’s men came away the victors 12-26 and start the Super 8s pushing for a place in the top four.

Friday night’s big clash saw the 2016 champions Wigan Warriors, take on a team they had beaten two weeks earlier the Leeds Rhinos, however at Headingley Brian McDermott’s side put on a decent performance to win 32-16. Hull FC beat Salford Red Devils 32-18 and Huddersfield Giants halted Wakefield Trinity at the John Smiths 36-6.

In the Qualifiers Warrington Wolves beat fellow Super League opposition Widnes Vikings, whilst Leigh Centurions started the fight to stay in the top flight with a win over Featherstone Rovers and Catalans Dragons had a tough test against London Broncos in France, the Dragons just edging out a win.

On Sunday Hull KR took on a team that they lost to only two weeks ago in Halifax, it was a close game with Halifax leading for much of it but the potential Super League quality side got a victory. Plus Toulouse’s victory over Bradford Bulls has confirmed that the Bulls will be relegated and start next season in League One, assuming the league isn’t restructured.

Busy week of action to review and off field issues to discuss which certainly makes for a fiery edition of The Last Tackle.
