Hull KR lock up youth

Hull Kingston Rovers have tied up four of the club’s young players to deals in the Kingstone Press Championship.

Under-19s Player of the Year Will Jubb and Players’ Player of the Year Liam Harris have both signed full-time deals with the Robins and will take their place in Tim Sheens’ squad for 2017.

Hooker Jubb, who made a try-scoring debut away to London in the Super 8s Qualifiers, joins stand-off Harris in agreeing a one-year contract with the club, whilst England Academy internationals Joe Wardill and Will Oakes have also agreed to honour their existing first-team deals at the Lightstream Stadium.

Head coach Tim Sheens said: “It’s exciting for the club to be able to hold on to its best young players and something we needed to do.

“I’ve heard good reports about all four of them and they have the opportunity now to test themselves against some experienced opposition in the Championship.

“It will be good for their development and they have an opportunity to become key players within the side, both next season and further down the line.

“One of my priorities as the head coach will be to help these kids in the early part of their careers and get them playing regularly in first grade.”
