Ireland have confirmed that they will host Belgium in an international match at Bray, County Wicklow, on July 12.

The Ireland team will be a development side, consisting entirely of domestically based players,

This is the first ever meeting between the countries, and with Belgium coached by Tony Benson, who has previously worked with Ireland, there will be the chance to renew some acquaintanceships.

“These games will help develop our local players and prepare them to step up to the European Championship games in the autumn,” said Richard Egan, Director of RLI.

Carl de Chenu, currenty the Ireland Students coach, will coach the Irish team, which will be a mix of experienced A internationals and newcomers to the set-up.

Ireland will play three such games this summer, with further clashes against Serbia and Malta scheduled for August 29 and September 5 respectively.

Tickets for the Belgium test will go on sale soon. More details can be found on the Rugby League Ireland Facebook page.
