Amor hopes last year’s lessons can help St Helens

St Helens prop Kyle Amor is sure that his team can bounce back from their Good Friday defeat to Wigan.

The Saints squad is currently hard hit with injuries, with more players succumbing to knocks and strains during the game against the Warriors.

But Amor believes that the lessons learned in adversity in 2014 can stand the Saints in good stead for the rest of 2015.

“We’re a team that’s been through a lot of adversity last year, and we’ve learned lessons from that,” he said.

“We tried today, but we came up short. That’s the good thing about Easter – you don’t get too long to dwell on it.

“We’ll all be ready for Monday.

“There’s injuries – we lost Joe Greenwood straight away, and we lost Paul Wellens just after half-time.

“So we had to do it tough with just two changes. I’m sure the medical team will look at that, and we’ll look at the video to get prepared for another tough game against Hull.

“We always knew that Wigan at home were going to do that, they were going to come rough and ready for us.

“We managed to ride that out. We made a real go of it.

“The injuries we have are key injuries. The halfback situation again.

“But I don’t think there was too much between the two sides, and now we do everything right with our sports science team and we get ready to go on Monday.”

Saints face Hull FC on Easter Monday, and Amor knows that Keiron Cunningham‘s team must be on their game if they are to beat the Airlie Birds, who are wounded from their own derby defeat to Hull KR.

“I think it was one of those games where you can look back and it could have gone either way,” he said.

“You had a try from a kick charge-down straightaway, and in the end that was the difference between the two sides.

“It’s a tremendous effort from our lads given the situation we were in.

“But credit to Wigan. Now we dust ourselves down and get ready for Monday.”
