Powell might appeal RFL fine

Castleford coach Daryl Powell has confirmed that he may appeal the £500 fine handed to him by the RFL, following comments he made about referee James Child.

The RFL revealed on Tuesday that Powell would be hit with the fine, following remarks in the wake of the Tigers’ defeat to St Helens last week.

Half the fine has been suspended until the end of the 2015 season.

Powell, however, insists that he has no regrets about what he said reharding Child.

“I stand by my comments. There has got to be accountability for everything that goes on,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I’m going to decide whether I appeal or pay the fine.

“Something has got to change there. Players and coaches are accountable for their performances so I think referees should be as well.”

Meanwhile, Powell also confirmed that Garreth Carvell will not play again for Cas. The 33-year-old prop is currently sidelined with a neck injury.

He has been named in the Wales squad for the European Championship next month, however.

“We won’t be offering him a playing contract,” Powell said.
