James Rule: ‘A momentous victory’

Widnes CEO James Rule has described the Vikings’ win over Warrington as ‘a special night in the club’s evolution’.

Following Thursday’s shock 16-6 victory over their near-neighbours, Rule commented:

“To travel to The Halliwell Jones Stadium and face a side of the quality that Warrington Wolves possess, is always going to be a difficult challenge.

“To do that with so many players unavailable for selection through injury undoubtedly increases the size of that challenge.

“Likewise, to then lose Grant Gore through injury and Hep Cahill to a red card – one could’ve been forgiven for thinking that the challenge was insurmountable.

“However, the Widnes Vikings’ players and coaching staff dug deep and delivered a truly awe-inspiring performance to come away with the victory.

“The magnitude of that performance simply cannot be underestimated, and everybody connected with the club will no doubt be filled with an enormous sense of pride at what they witnessed.

“We are all playing our part in moving Widnes Vikings forward and last night’s result will live forever in our memories.”
