Murrell turns down Super League clubs to remain at Halifax

Halifax captain Scott Murrell has closed the door on a potential return to the Super League by signing a new two-year deal at The Shay.

Murrell, 27, joined Halifax last Autumn after seven seasons with Hull KR and has quickly established himself as one of the Championship side’s top players.

And despite reported interest from Castleford and Wakefield, Murrell has instead elected to stay with Yorkshire rivals Halifax.

“Halifax coach Karl Harrison said: “It’s happened pretty quickly, but it’s quite a coup for us.

There has been some interest from other clubs for next year, which Scott has had to consider.

“We certainly couldn’t compete with the money on offer at that level, but what we could offer was the security of a multi-year deal on his existing terms.

“Scott’s had a big influence since he arrived, on and off the field, and this is a huge commitment for him and the club.

“We can plan for the future now and build a team around Scott.”

Halifax face Hunslet on Sunday and could go top of the Kingstone Press Championship if other results go their way.
