Shaun Wane hurt after Wigan loss to Warrington

Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane was bitterly disappointed after his side’s 30-10 defeat away to Warrington.

Wane saw his side drop Super League points at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, which leaves the Wolves only a point behind the Warriors with three matches of the regular season remaining.

The Wigan coach blasted his side for their performance, and refused to criticise the match officials despite being asked what he thought about Joel Monaghan’s try in the first half.

He said: “I’m very disappointed. We didn’t play how we trained all week and didn’t trust the game plan. We made too many errors.

“I’m disappointed in our contact, how many offloads they got and how they won the floor. We came up against a team who wanted it more and that hurts.

“We missed tackles, we dropped balls. That happens. Referees sometime make mistakes too, they are human beings. I’m not bothered about that to be honest. Warrington scored 30 points and that hurts me. It didn’t change the game.”

Wane also revealed Brett Finch played despite being unfit, but revealed that Pat Richards, Thomas Leuluai and Stuart Fielden are close to making their return from injury.

He said: “Finch wasn’t fit and he struggled through, but neither was Sam Powell nor Tommy Leuluai, and I couldn’t move Lockers from the middle, so as a seasoned professional Brett put his hand up and did his best out there, but it just didn’t work.

 “I’ve got some players coming back. Pat Richards played 40 minutes in the under 20’s, Tommy is aiming for Hull KR and Stu Fielden is 3 weeks off. Then we’ll be back to full strength.”
