Griffin out to prove a point

Castleford winger Josh Griffin is out to prove a point when he plays against former club Huddersfield on Friday.

Griffin, 21, joined the Tigers in the close season having impressed during a loan spell at Wakefield in 2011, and he has scored seven tries in his first six games at the club.

The Oxford-born three-quarter is the younger brother of Leeds prop Darrell and was first handed a professional chance by Wakefield, back in 2008, before moving on to Huddersfield.

He told the club’s official website: “I think I was still a bit of a kid then when I was at the Giants, I never got to show what I was capable of. I knew I was inexperienced and needed to play regularly in Super League. Opportunities were limited so I asked for a release from the Giants.

“There’s no hard feelings; obviously I’m still close with a lot of the boys over there and (head coach) Nathan Brown helped me out a lot but I think I’ve found a bit of consistency in my game here with Cas and I feel there’s a point or two to prove on Friday.”

Griffin made just three appearances during his time at Huddersfield, making his debut in the 38-12 Challenge Cup win over Rochdale in May 2009.

He scored five tries in 14 appearances in a loan spell at Championship Batley in 2010, before spending the whole of 2011 on loan at Belle Vue.

Under the stewardship of John Kear, Griffin scored seven tries and 21 goals in 21 appearances for the Wildcats, helping him secure a move to the Probiz Coliseum.

He scored on his debut, a 24-10 win over Salford in round one, and notched a hat-trick in the 28-20 loss against Catalan in round three. Saturday’s defeat to London was the first time Griffin has played and not scored in a Castleford shirt.

They travel to Huddersfield on Saturday looking to upset the new league leaders in front of the SKY TV cameras.
