Cas stand by Aspinwall

Castleford will stand-by forward Martin Aspinwall, despite the four-month prison sentence handed down to him last week.

The former Huddersfield and Wigan man was jailed for a driving offence, but the Tigers say there will be a place in the squad for Aspinwall at the end of his prison term.

Head Coach Terry Matterson said: “While we as a club do not condone what Martin has done to find himself in this situation, his attitude and enthusiasm whilst with the Castleford Tigers has been first class.

“We’ll be giving Martin all of the support possible to ensure that he moves on from this in a positive manner when he completes his sentence.

“The best way we see for him to do this is by applying himself to playing and training in a full time environment.”

Aspinwall, 29, is in his first season at the PROBIZ Coliseum having spent the past five years at Huddersfield, where he scored 29 tries in 95 appearances.
