New deals for Warrington trio
Warrington trio Garreth Carvell, Chris Bridge and David Solomona have all agreed new deals with the current Super League front runners.
Prop forward Carvell joined the Wolves from Hull FC in 2009 and has signed a two-year extension which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2013 season.
Head coach Tony Smith stated: “Garreth has been in terrific form which has been recognised in his call-up to the England squad. He’s worked hard for that but I think he’s working hard for Warrington first and foremost, and understands that by playing well for Warrington there are other benefits like representing your country. He’s known as an attacking playing but his defence has been in great form for a number of weeks now which is an area he’s worked really hard on.”
Versatile centre Bridge has made 127 appearances for the Wolves and has amassed over 600 points since he made his debut in 2005. The England International has agreed a new three-year deal which extends his contract until the end of the 2015 season.
Smith commented “This contract extension gives Chris a bit of security knowing he’s a Wolves player now for a number of years. He has really matured as a player and a person, and has become a father. He’s also one of the elite players within the England set-up and is a high quality centre. He has versatility and is a player that I thoroughly enjoy coaching and am delighted that he’s staying.”
Both Carvell and Bridge are set to represent England on Friday as they bid to post a win in the mid-season origin match against the Exiles.
Second-row forward Somolona signed for Warrington from Bradford, having previously played for Sydney, Parramatta and Wakefield. The powerful forward, renouned for his outstanding ball handling and offloading skills, has signed a one-year extension which will keep him at the club until the end of 2012.
Smith commented on the Solomona deal “We’re very happy that David has extended for another year. Sol has been playing very good rugby for us in recent times. He started the season well, had a little dip in form but has now come back to some of his best and he’s working really hard in a lot of areas. He is one of those very unique players who can do things in a game that not many other people can do and we feel, and he feels, he can do another year. I believe he can do a great job for us and am delighted for him to stay as he plays a big role for us on and off the field.
