South Sydney prop Sam Burgess will be ready for the NRL‘s opening round after surgery on his injured shoulder.

Burgess underwent surgery yesterday on the shoulder injury he suffered playing for England in the Four Nations tournament.

A club statement read: “Burgess’ shoulder was not healing as quickly as expected, so he went in for shoulder surgery yesterday to repair the damage.

“Burgess will commence rehabilitation training in four weeks and will be available to start the 2011 season for the Rabbitohs.”

The news coincides with the arrival of another Burgess at the Rabbitohs, Sam’s 18-year-old brother George.

The youngster will join Souths on a season-long loan from Bradford and is likely to feature in the club’s U20 team.
