Wigan Warriors put Harlequins to the sword with a 40-12 victory at the JJB Stadium.

The home side got off to a scorching start, leading 14-0 inside fourteen minutes.

Harlequins, disappointingly for them, never looked like taking anything from the game.

Pat Richards scored the first try after just a minute of play, quickly followed by tries from Mark Riddell – to which Richards added the conversion – and Karl Pryce.

Matt Gafa touched down Danny Orr’s kick to bring Quins back into the game, Orr converting, but their chances were quashed when David Howell was sent off for an elbow on Sam Tomkins.

George Carmont quickly got over the line, followed by Amos Roberts, Richards’ conversion making the half-time score 24-6.

Joel Tomkins scored first after the interval, touching down with his fingertips, before two Thomas Leuluai tries, each converted by Richards.

Quins had the final say through Luke Gale, Orr adding his second goal, but the Warriors were the clear winners over the London side.
