Whitehaven bring in ex-NRL prop

Championship 1 club Whitehaven have completed the signing of former NRL prop Luke Isakka.

Isakka, 31, started his career with South Sydney, moving on to Wests Tigers before playing in the lower grades in Australia in recent years.

It provides a timely boost for the Cumbrian club, who will start the new season on minus nine points after entering adminstration at the end of the last campaign, following a 50-0 pre-season friendly hammering at the hands of league rivals Oldham on Sunday.

Head Coach David Seeds said: “We have been on the look-out for players and Luke was really keen to come over here and test himself.

“I don’t know much about him, but he has a very good CV. He’s experienced in a good competition in Australia.

“He has come over here to better himself and put himself in the shop window, and hopefully he’ll be a success for us. Prop is a key position and we’ve been pretty light on them.”
