Reserves match abandoned due to injury to Leeds player

A reserves match between Wigan and Leeds was abandoned due to an injury to Rhinos youngster Toby Warren.

Play was stopped in the 55th minute with medical staff giving care and treatment to Warren.

And after around 15 minutes of play being paused, the referee and captains mutually agreed to abandon the game, with the score at 16-16.

The Rhinos tweeted: “Tonight’s reserves game was abandoned after an injury to Toby Warren.

“Toby has gone to hospital as a precaution to get checked over but was talking to team-mates before he left.

“A big thank you to Wigan Warriors and match officials for their help and our well wishes go to Toby.”

The Warriors responded: “We would like to extend our best wishes to Toby Warren following this evening’s Reserves fixture. We hope the injury is nothing serious!”

Wigan: Sumner; Mitchell, Jones, Lowe, Douglas; Kerr, Farrimond; Hill, Forber, Rothwell, Beardsworth, Nsemba, Wilson. Subs: Hobson, Ratchford, Wood, Kelly-Duffy. 18th player: Brown.

Leeds: Edgell; Roberts, Smith, Olpherts, Frater; Morgan, Shaw; Robinson, Johnson, Nicholson-Watton, Ruan, Warren, Walters. Subs: Aldridge, Hursey-Hord, Daly, Atkinson. 18th player: Brennan-Jones.

The reserves match was being played as a curtain-raiser to the men’s game.

The reserves match was being played at Robin Park, a stone’s throw away from the DW Stadium, where the first team match is being played at 8pm.
