Israel Folau missing from Catalans 2021 squad numbers list

Israel Folau made 15 appearances for Catalans last season

There is no mention of controversial centre Israel Folau in Catalans’ squad numbers announcement for 2021.

Folau, 31, has remained in Australia to help care for his mother-in-law and was granted a leave of absence by the Perpignan club.

Last month, speculation linked him with a return to the NRL with St George-Illawarra Dragons, who ended talks after backlash from supporters.

But mystery now surrounds his future after he was left off a list that included new signing Dean Whare taking the number four shirt that Folau wore last season.

The former Australia international arrived in Super League 12 months ago amidst much controversy over the beliefs and views that caused his Australia rugby union contract to be ripped up.

He agreed a contract extension with Catalans for the 2021 season back in July.

Meanwhile, new British recruits Gil Dudson and Mike McMeeken have been handed the 8 and 12 shirts.

Mathieu Cozza, Joe Chan, Corentin Le Cam and Mathieu Laguerre have all received first team squad numbers after stepping up from the academy, with Arthur Mourgue taking the number one shirt.

Two squad numbers have been left vacant.
