England add to fall-out squad

Eleven players have been added to the England train-on squad following the elimination of Hull Kingston Rovers and Warrington Wolves from the Engage Super League play-offs.

The 11 – eight from Warrington and three from Hull Kingston Rovers – will join the existing members of the train on squad next week to prepare for the Four Nations and the Garry Purdham Memorial Game against Cumbria in Whitehaven on Sunday October 3.

The new additions to the squad are:

In addition, England coach Steve McNamara has drafted Melbourne Storm stand-off Gareth Widdop into his squad ahead of the Four Nations tournament t in Australia and New Zealand.

Widdop, who made a try-scoring debut for England against France in June, will remain in Australia training under the supervision of Jeremy Hickmans, the national team’s physical performance analyst.

Widdop has been called up following Melbourne’s elimination from the Toyota Cup play-offs.

Hickmans is also working with Sam Burgess, the South Sydney forward who was called into the fall-out squad after his club failed to reach the NRL play-offs. Widdop will fly from Melbourne to Sydney to train alongside Burgess.

If selected for the Four Nations, both players will join up with the rest of the squad en route to Auckland on Saturday October 9.

Further players will be added to England’s fall-out squad as teams are eliminated from the Engage Super League play-offs.

Steve McNamara will announce his 24-man squad for the Four Nations at a media conference on Monday October 4.
