Dewsbury bring in promising youngster from Wigan

Dewsbury have secured the services of half-back Lewis Heckford for the 2019 season.

The 21-year-old spent time on loan at the Rams last season after coming through the ranks at the Warriors.

Heckford, who has represented England Academy, will join Dewsbury for 2019 in a bid to get more game-time under his belt.

On signing for the Rams, Heckford said: “I was down here last year with the club on loan, and I enjoyed working with the lads like Paul Sykes, Robbie Ward and Sam Day.

“My contract was up at Wigan and I had to make a decision on where I wanted to go and obviously I knew I enjoyed my time here last year.

“I spoke to Lee [Greenwood] and he told me the plans he had for the club and it would have been silly of me not to take up the opportunity to come back. Lee wants to push the club forward and run things differently around here which I like the sound of.

“He spoke like a lot of Super League coaches do and that excited me, so he is definitely pushing the club in the right direction.”

Dewsbury have also announced that Gareth Greenwood and Rikki Sheriffe will become Lee Greenwood’s assistant coaches next year.
