Danny Ward is the favourite to become the next Leeds head coach with the sport’s sponsors Betfred.

Super League’s sponsors Betfred have Danny Ward as their favourite to become the next coach of the Rhinos at 2/1.

The odds follow the resignation from Richard Agar, who has taken the decision to stand down from his role at the club.

Assistant coach Jamie Jones-Buchanan will be the new interim head coach. He will work alongside Sean Long and performance director Richard Hunwicks.

Leeds have won just one from their opening six games so far in 2022.

Danny Ward bookies’ favourite

Ward, 41, enjoyed a successful spell as head coach of London Broncos. The former Great Britain international coached the side to promotion into Super League. He left the club midway through the 2021 season.

Ward made more than 100 appearances for the Rhinos during his playing career. He recently joined rugby union outfit Rosslyn Park’s coaching staff.

Other odds

Ryan Carr is the second favourite at 7/2. The former Featherstone coach enjoyed a spell as assistant to Agar two years ago. He returned home to Australia at the end of the 2019 season to join the backroom staff at Parramatta Eels.

Former Super League and NRL hooker Michael Monaghan is named at 9/2. He made close to 300 career appearances across stints with Canberra Raiders, Manly Sea Eagles and Warrington. He was a part of Catalans’ coaching staff between 2015 and 2017.

Current Dragons head coach Steve McNamara has been priced at 7/1. McNamara joined the Perpignan-based side in 2017. He signed a new two-year contract extension with the club earlier this year.

Elsewhere, current Huddersfield head coach Ian Watson and England boss Shaun Wane have been priced at 8/1.

Club legend and Super League’s highest try scorer Danny McGuire has been listed at 10/1. He is currently a part of the coaching staff at Hull KR under Tony Smith. Kevin Sinfield has also been priced at 25/1.

Betfred are also offering odds on Jones-Buchanan (12/1), Michael Maguire (25/1) and Daryl Powell (33/1).

Jamie Peacock makes the list at 50/1, alongside Barrie McDermott at 66/1.
