Doncaster produced one of the results of the weekend with a stunning 24-16 win over Leigh at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday.

That win ended Leigh’s long winning run, and was the first Championship defeat the Centurions suffered this season.

Doncaster coach Paul Cooke felt that his players won a deserved reward for their effort, courage and commitment.

“I’m absolutely delighted, the players are a credit to themselves, it is amazing what you can achieve with a bit of belief.” he told his club’s official website.

“From last Sunday’s game all the players have been looking forward to this game, we gave them a night off during the week to recover and recuperate and we prepared really well to come up against what is a really, really good rugby league team.

“We got out of the game what I thought we deserved, we stuck in there and the longer the game went on, the more that we were likely to get a result.

“Everyone here is here for a reason, no matter what club, background or nationality and there is no bigger motivation than to end Leigh’s run.

“All of the boys were sensational, they have been all week and throughout all of the season.”

The Dons’ Scottish threequarter Dave Scott was also delighted with the performance

“It was an outstanding performance, it is testament to the boys and shows how far we have come as a group,” said the Stirling-born Scotland international.

“We have done really well at the Keepmoat Stadium beating the likes of Featherstone and away from home Sheffield and Batley and to do that against a team who have won 18 games in a row is fantastic.

“I said last week, the more and more they win, the closer that they are to losing.

“There was a buzz today and I felt we were going to win today, we all turned up and everyone was brilliant from 1 to 17.”
