Rob Burrow said he was overwhelmed and humbled after a sell-out crowd watched he and several fellow Leeds legends turn out for a final time for Jamie Jones-Buchanan’s testimonial against Bradford at Headingley.

A packed house, the first sell-out since the ground was re-developed, was Leeds beat the Bulls 34-10, though the result was secondary on an emotional and poignant day for rugby league.

Burrow was joined by Kevin Sinfield, Jamie Peacock and Danny McGuire, amongst others, in taking to the field late on in a game that was broadcast live by Sky Sports.

Speaking to Brian Carney on Sky Sports after the match, Burrow said: “(It’s) overwhelming. I can’t believe the turnout, it’s humbling, and I’m forever grateful. Unbelievable.

“We’re not the biggest sport, but we’re closely knit so thank you very much.”

When asked about his former team-mates coming out again to play for him, he added: “What can I say? As long as they know that I’d do exactly the same for them.”

Another former team-mate of Burrow, Barrie McDermott, also had some emotional words after the match.

“You’re an unbelievable character Rob. The respect everyone has shown you hear today, and for you to get out there, you’re an absolute champion and an inspiration.”
