Tom Burgess hails brother Sam as “trailblazer”

Tom Burgess has spoken very highly of his brother Sam after the latter announced his retirement from the game.

Sam has been forced to hang up his boots due to a chronic left shoulder condition that only became apparent earlier this year after routine surgery.

Tom has come out in full support of his brother and gave him big raps.

He told NRL.com: “He’s made the decision for himself and it is not something he has done lightly.

“I support him entirely in their decision and he’s been a trailblazer for my family in coming out to Australia, we’ve got to celebrate and smile about what he has done in the game.

“It’s not the end of the world, life goes on and I’m sure he’ll be fine. Obviously he is retiring earlier than we would have liked but we have got to take it and move on. There’s more to life than footy.

“I’m just thankful for the time we have spent together playing as brothers. He had to make that decision and I will stand by him.”
