Wakefield Trinity have announced the signing of Nathan Mason from Huddersfield on an initial two-week loan.

Mason, 29, has immediately joined the side for training and is in contention to feature in Thursday’s Rival Round clash against Castleford at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

The ex-Leigh forward is yet to feature for Huddersfield in 2023, and has made 59 Super League appearances to date.

He joins fellow Giants team-mates Innes Senior and Sam Hewitt to have made the move to Belle Vue on loan this year.

Senior, 22, linked up with Mark Applegarth’s side just last week on a short-term loan move. He featured on the wing in the 38-0 loss to St Helens in Round Seven at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Meanwhile, Hewitt, 23, joined the club earlier in March. He featured against Salford and Hull KR, sent to the sin-bin in the latter during the 34-6 home defeat.

Wakefield remain at the bottom of the Super League table, still searching for their first win of the campaign.

Nathan Mason on loan move

Mason said: “I’m really appreciative of Wakefield for allowing me to come on board and for giving me an opportunity to play.

“I’m looking forward to getting out on the field for the first time this year and just want to rip in for the lads.”

Wakefield head coach Applegarth added: “I’m really pleased to be able to bring Nathan in at this time.

“He’s an experienced forward who adds some size and quality to our pack ahead of some big games that are coming up.

“I’d like to thank Huddersfield for allowing Nathan to link up with us and I’m looking forward to working with him over the next few weeks.”

Wakefield will welcome back hooker Liam Hood for their crunch derby against Castleford, with Kevin Proctor, Renouf Atoni and Kelepi Tanginoa all thought to be close to a return.

Will Dagger recently made the move from Hull KR in a swap deal that saw talented prospect Corey Hall go the other way. He made his first appearances against St Helens last Friday.

Josh Bowden is yet to make an appearance in 2023, while outside backs Jorge Taufua and Tom Lineham were also missing against Saints.
