Robinson praises Vikings’ effort

Trent Robinson praised Denis Betts and his Widnes side after what Robinson described as an “outstanding” performance.

Robinson entered the press room after the match, and immediately congratulated the Vikings’ director of rugby Paul Cullen who was nearby despite the Dragons winning 42-34.

Robinson said: “Widnes pressured us from all over the park, jumped on every loose ball and put us under a lot of pressure. We folded for a fair bit of time.

“I think they deserved something out of that game, and you could see the desperation when they had two players go down injured.

“They were doing everything in that game, and for them to go away from that game with nothing in terms of points will be disappointing, but they can take a lot out of that.”

Robinson did not criticise his team publically, but said his side were dominant in the opening stages of the match.

He said: “I thought we started well. We were pretty specific with what we wanted to do, and we started really well. We defended the first few sets really well.”
