New deal for Tiger Arundel

Castleford have handed a new deal to young centre Joe Arundel.

Arundel, 18, has signed a new two-year deal with the club after impressing boss Terry Matterson in his five first team appearances this year.

Matterson said: “On the back of Richard Owen re-signing we’re really pleased that Joe has also agreed to stay with the club for another two years. He has pushed his way into first grade this year and looked very comfortable. I’m very excited about what Joe can do for Cas in the future and we are hoping to see him available for selection for Sunday’s game in Neath.”

The Tigers academy product has been out recently with a leg injury but could return in Sunday’s clash with Crusaders.

Arundel added: “I always wanted to stay with Cas so I’m pleased to have got this new deal sorted out. Breaking into the squad this season has been a plus and hopefully I can keep my place this year. And now I can also look for a big off season here and come back better still for 2011 and hopefully clinch a regular place in the team.”

He made his debut as a 16-year-old against Huddersfield in 2008 and also spent time on-loan at Gateshead in 2009.

Arundel’s re-signing was announced alongside confirmation that England international centre Michael Shenton will leave the club at the end of the season.
