Wigan head coach Matt Peet has confirmed that Jai Field will be sidelined for up to 10 weeks due to a hamstring issue sustained in the win over Leigh.

The 25-year-old full-back or half-back left the field in the latter stages at the Leigh Sports Village in the 34-6 victory last Thursday.

Field had featured in every Super League game so far this season, scoring five tries.

Playmaker Cade Cust will also be forced to watch from the sidelines this Friday in the Good Friday derby clash with St Helens at DW Stadium.

Peet confirmed a neck injury to the Australian half-back ahead of their Round Seven clash with the Leopards.

Winger Liam Marshall, who missed the win over Leigh, could be a potential boost for the Warriors.

“Jai is eight-to-10 weeks,” Peet confirmed.

“Cade Cust is going to depend on a few checks ups. Neither are going to need an operation

“It’s a challenge for us, but one we look forward to.

“I know eight-to-10 sounds like a kick to us, but he thought he did the same as last time.

“The fact he doesn’t need an operation is a bonus.”

“I think he’s relieved” – Peet on Jai Field

Having arrived ahead of the 2021 season, Field made his Super League debut against Leigh, but it was cut short after the former St George Illawarra full-back suffered a hamstring injury in the first half.

He did not return to action until that August, and Peet admits there were fears he had suffered the same injury two years on.

“I think he’s relieved, to be honest,” Peet said. “I think we all were.

“There’s a big difference from four months to two months, because you’re talking back end of the season there.

“The headlines will say it’s 10 weeks, but after the game we were all fearing the worst.

“Eight weeks, and there’s an international week in there. It’ll go quite quick.

“He’s a pretty upbeat character.”
