Gallen warns Sharks after nervy victory

Cronulla skipper Paul Gallen has sounded a warning to his players ahead of next weekend’s clash at Penrith.

The Sharks recorded an encouraging come-from-behind 20-14 victory over North Queensland on Saturday, but Gallen wants less errors.

“I was definitely impressed by the boys effort to hold out a team like that, especially with the amount of ball they had, but we aren’t going to be able to do that every week,” said Gallen.

“We have to learn from our mistakes… we need to stop dropping the ball in our own half and stop making it so hard for ourselves.

“If we do that and complete a little better we will be even more competitive.”

Typically Gallen led from the front, making runs for 248 metres and putting in a workmanline 35 tackles.

Andrew Fifita and Ben Pomeroy crossed for the Sharks while recruit Todd Carney weighed in with two conversions and a penalty to help the Sharks to victory.

But Gallen insists that the team are still feeling their way and will want a better performance when the Sharks line up against at Centrebet Stadium against the Panthers next Saturday.

“We still have a real lot to learn, but it goes to show that we are turning up for each other and playing for each other which is a promising sign,” added Gallen.

“If we can complete sets, do the little things right and not lose the ball in our own half then we will continue to compete well.”

Full-back Nathan Gardner is in doubt for the clash with the Panthers after leaving the field in Townsville with concussion.
