Benson demands major improvement

Oldham coach Tony Benson will demand a major improvement from his side after last week’s 30-0 defeat against Doncaster.

However, his cause is not helped by the news that Ben Wood (knee), Ben Heaton (ribs), Neil Roden (head), Danny Whitmore (head) and Mark Brocklehurst (shoulder) all took knocks against the Dons that will need monitoring before Sunday’s Co-operative Championship One fixture with the South Wales Scorpions.

Chris Clarke is also set to continue his spell on the sidelines with a thumb problem.

Scorpions’ director of rugby Mark Rowley believes Sunday’s game can have a big impact on South Wales‘ play-off hopes.

Rowley said: “The league is getting far more competitive, what with London’s win over Rochdale and teams like Doncaster showing a big improvement on last year.

“We’re picking ourselves up after Sunday’s disappointing loss (against Workington) and going into this weekend with confidence.”

Chris Davies could return to the Scorpions line up, while Robin Lock is also being considered after impressing for Valley Cougars.
