Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey says his side are happy to go under the radar in 2022 following their 34-24 victory over Widnes at the DCBL Stadium.

French international Hakim Miloudi produced some magic and inspired his side to victory. The Raiders forward pack also impressed with a dominant performance in the second half.

Raiders remain undefeated in 2022, claiming four wins in the league so far this season.

They won promotion back to the Championship in 2021, lifting League 1’s League Leaders’ Shield at the Matt Johnston Prestige Stadium.

Barrow Raiders opened their 2022 campaign with a 22-10 home victory over Sheffield and have since claimed wins over Whitehaven and Newcastle before travelling to Widnes.

It was a great display live on Premier Sports for Crarey’s side, who next host Workington in the fifth round of the Challenge Cup.

Paul Crarey: ‘We like the underdog tag’

Speaking on Premier Sports, Crarey said: “We just like to go under the radar. I think we like the underdog tag, especially coming up from League 1.

“We did really well in the Championship last time and we can play. We said to our boys, to win games at rugby at this level, you’ve got to play. You can’t come with five drives and a kick and go set-for-set and we didn’t do that. I thought we scored some great tries.

On man of the match Hakim, Crarey added: “Hakim, he’s not the greatest defender, but he’s hard to handle on edges. We’re entertainers.

“We like to entertain. We’ve got a great group of fans. We get big crowds at home and they want to see football. Cumbrian people are very knowledgable.

“It’s great to get the win. I’m so chuffed for the lads with the work they’ve put in.”

Barrow’s Challenge Cup fifth round tie will be live on the BBC on Sunday, March 13.
