Jonny Lomax and Kyle Amor pleased with St Helens victory

Jonny Lomax and Kyle Amor praised St Helens’ defence and determination following their 40-18 win at Castleford.
The Saints ran in eight tries to ease past the Tigers 40-18 at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle on Thursday night, extending their lead at the top of the Super League table.
England international Lomax, who picked up the man of the match award, praised Saints’ defence for the first hour of the game.
He said: “Castleford came out really strong when we played them two weeks ago and we were aware that they were going to try and do that again.
“I think they got the better of us in the first 20 minutes of the game two weeks ago, so we wanted to rectify that this time around.
“We will be a bit disappointed for the scoreline to end the way it did but fair play to Cas, they created some opportunities in the first half but our scramble defence got us out of trouble.
“We pride ourselves on our defence but if you keep the ball in play then games can become relentless and we got the rewards on the back of the defence and completing highly.”
Ireland prop Amor came back into the Saints team on Thursday and scored the game’s opening try.
And the 30-year-old said he thinks Saints could have been better, but he is happy with the two points.
Amor said: “Luckily enough I managed to get over and get us off to a good start so I was made up with the try.
“We were disappointed with a couple of tries that Castleford scored. We don’t feel as though we played particularly well but we scored 40 points again so we have got to be happy with that I suppose.
“We spoke about it in the week that it was going to be a huge effort going to Castleford but we got the two points and now we’ll roll onto the Cup next week, so we’ll look forward to that.”
Next up for Saints is a Challenge Cup clash against Hull FC at the Totally Wicked Stadium next Sunday, 3:30pm kick-off.
St Helens coach Justin Holbrook said every single one of his players performed well in their win at Castleford.
