Vickery earns Leeds deal

Leeds have handed a one-year deal to utility back Joe Vickery after a successful trial spell.

Vickery, 23, joined up with the Rhinos for pre-season training, and scored twice in the Boxing Day friendly victory against Wakefield.

Formerly with Gold Coast Titans, he saw a proposed move to Hull break down midway through last season, and went on to score 17 tries for Titans’ feeder club Tweed Heads.

He said: “It was my ambition to earn a contract with the club when I came over here and I backed myself to do that so I am delighted to have signed for the season.”

Vickery has been handed the vacant number 25 shirt by head coach Brian McDermott.
