Josh  is another proud product of the Wigan youth academy system,  joining the club after his talent and potential was spotted whilst playing for Wigan St Pats. He enjoyed a spell at the Blackpool Panthers as a part of the dual registration system and in his short spell there he managed five tries in just three games for the club. Charnley gained experience from a loan spell with Hull K.R, playing under Justin Morgan and notched up a respectable tally of five tries in as many matches for the Robins. Charnley was recalled by the Warriors and ironically scored on his Wigan debut against Hull K.R at Craven Park. Charnley’s fine form continued in 2011 and he made the Warriors wing position his own-scoring 27 tries and finishing as the clubs second highest try scorer. A dangerous combination of pace and power makes Charnley a model modern day wide man and the youngster scored the opening try in his team’s victory against the Leeds Rhino’s  in the 2011 Challenge Cup Final. Charnley’s ability to finish tries when the odds are stacked against him saw him named Wigan Warriors Young Player Of The Year in 2011.
