A product of Wakefield based Stanley Rangers ARLFC, Kirmond signed for Featherstone Rovers at the age of 19 on a three year deal. He scored four tries in 14 appearances in his first season at the club including two in a 30-30 draw against Rochdale Hornets in May.
In his second season at Rovers, Kirmond scored 12 tries in 27 games, eight of those tries being scored in the 18 National League Two games he featured in. He scored a hat trick of tries in the Elimination Playoff match against Gateshead Thunder on September 17th. Rovers won the match 46-18 to progress to the next round of the playoffs and Kirmond was awarded Man of the Match.
Kirmond’s 3rd and final season at Featherstone was his most impressive. Scoring 25 tries in 32 appearances for the club, he became the club’s leading try scorer for the season. His impressive scoring record helped Rovers to second in the league and into the playoffs. Kirmond scored two tries in the Qualifying Semi Final in which Rovers beat Barrow 36-20. He also featured in the Grand Final against Oldham which saw Featherstone gain promotion to National League 1 for the 2008 season.
After an impressive three years in the National Leagues Kirmond was signed by Super League side Huddersfield Giants. He made his top flight debut on April 12th in Huddersfield’s narrow 16-18 defeat to Wakefield. He went on to make 30 more appearances for the Giants before being sent out on a season long loan to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in a package deal which saw Danny Brough move in the opposite direction.
Kirmond made his Wildcats debut against Warrington in the 8th round of the 2010 season and scored against Bradford on August 22nd. Huddersfield arranged with Wakefield to recall Kirmond to play in the playoff matches. He appeared in the first elimination game as well as both the preliminary and qualifying semi finals, scoring in the preliminary game against Warrington Wolves.
Kirmond made 15 appearances for Giants in 2011 before signing a permanent 3 year deal with Wildcats for the 2012 season.
