Wigan full-back Zak Hardaker has been charged with drink driving, the club has confirmed in a statement.

Hardaker, 26, has only just started training with the Warriors after joining them on a four-year deal, and is still banned from playing rugby league until the start of November.

The statement said: “Wigan Warriors confirm that they are aware of an incident involving Zak Hardaker on Tuesday evening (25th September) which has seen the player charged with driving with excess alcohol. He will appear in court on Thursday 11th October.  The player is co-operating with the Police investigation.

“Wigan Warriors will allow the legal process to take its course.

“The club will be issuing no further comment at this time.”

Hardaker’s ban for taking cocaine was set at 14 months following a legal defence of his case that included undisclosed circumstances surrounding the player.
