York have signed young Wakefield forward Yusuf Aydin on an initial two-week loan deal.

Aydin, 20, made his Super League debut for the Betfred Super League club last season against Hull FC and made his international bow for Turkey in 2019 in a match against Malta in Sydney.

He said: “I’m here to get some more game time and experience. I want to learn off these lads and, hopefully, they can learn a bit from me as well.

“I had Fordy as a teacher and, if his coaching is anything like that, he’s just straight and direct with you as well as wanting the best for you.”

Aydin goes straight into contention for this weekend’s Championship clash with Sheffield, with the Knights also expected to add another Super League forward to their ranks.

Coach James Ford added: “He was in my last form as a teacher. He’s always shown a pretty solid attitude towards learning and he is a tough, uncompromising middle who brings some aggression to the team.”
