York raid for second Featherstone youngster

York have followed up the signing of Featherstone’s Tom Carr by capturing his team mate, Aaron Lyons.

Lyons, 21, is a centre or second-row and has impressed incoming Knights coach Gary Thornton while playing for Rovers’ Under 23s team this season.

He said: “I am delighted to be signing with York and I’m looking forward to a successful year. After speaking to Gary (Thornton) he sold the club to me and I hope to become an important part of the first team.”

Thornton takes over from Chris Thorman, who will move to Huddersfield to be an assistant coach to Paul Anderson.

York are set to announce further signings in the next few weeks from teams currently participating in the end of season play-offs.
