York players to pay for supporters coach to Doncaster

York’s players will pay for fans to travel on the club’s supporters coach to this weekend’s game at Doncaster, following last week’s 34-0 defeat against Keighley.

It was Keighley’s first win of the season, moving themselves within two points of the City Knights, who recruited strongly in the close season to help push them up the Championship table.

One of their main signings was half-back Simon Brown, who helped lead Sheffield to Championship glory last season, and it was a discussion between him and fan Simon Hall on Twitter that led to the gesture.

Brown said: “We think its a great idea. After last weeks performance the supporters deserve an apology, so the lads will be happy to all chip in the get the fans to Doncaster.”

Other players, including Matty Nicholson and George Elliot, also added their support to the campaign via Twitter.

Assistant Coach Mick Ramsden added: “Its a great response from the lads. We had a lot of disappointed players in the dressing room last week and rightly so, but we have a great chance to put right a lot of wrongs at Doncaster and it will be great to have as many fans as possible there cheering them on.”

Fans can now book their place for free for the trip to the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday by calling 07763 121732.
