York out of Moore running

York have pulled out of the race to sign Wakefield half-back Gareth Moore after he stated his desire to remain in Super League.

Moore, 22, is a Leeds academy graduate and moved to Belle Vue early in 2011 from Batley, having helped the Bulldogs win the Northern Rail Cup in 2010.

He played on loan at York in 2009 and the City Knights were keen to add him to their Championship squad for the 2012 season.

But a club statement read: “The Knights have been in talks with the Wildcats, and Moore himself, but the player has stated his desire to stay in Superleague and fight for his place at the Wildcats. There also may be an option for him to play Rugby Union and we understand that this is currently been explored.”

The Knights are, however, in talks with two players regarding two possible dual-registrations.
