York City Knights get stadium boost

York City Knights have received a boost today after York Council defeated a legal challenge from Vue Cinema over the proposed new community stadium.

The objection from Vue Entertainments Ltd was over an amendment in the approved planning permission to increase the proposed new IMAX cinema – part of the stadium project – from 12 screens to 13, however planning judge Mr Justice Collins dismissed the challenge at a hearing today in London’s High Courts of Justice. Vue Entertainments were also refused the right to appeal the decision.

City of York council welcomed today’s decision and remain committed to opening the new community stadium by late summer 2018.

Knights owner Jon Flatman said:  “York City Knights are excited about representing the city and wider region at a fit for purpose entertainment venue. Today is another milestone achieved in the journey towards that objective.

“We look forward to seeing the stadium project build momentum as that aim is fulfilled.”
