York have signed former Super League winger or full-back Ben Cockayne for 2018.

Cockayne, 34, has made more than 300 appearances after making his debut as a 21-year-old at Hunslet.

It is with Hull KR where he made his name in two spells, helping them gain promotion to Super League, while he has also played for Featherstone and Wakefield.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to it at York. Jon [Flatman] is a good guy and he really sold the club well to me.

“I may be heading towards the end of my career but I still feel I have plenty to offer on the pitch, as well as helping the younger lads in the team in any way I can.

“Hopefully I can finish my time at Hull KR by winning promotion back to Super League, then I’ll look forward to getting stuck into pre-season at York all guns blazing!”

York coach James Ford added: “I’m delighted to be in a position to bring a player in of Ben’s quality. His tenacity and experience will have a positive effect on everyone at the club.

“Ben will also be key in the development of some of our outstanding young players; I think it’s an exciting time to be a York supporter watching this squad take shape.

“I’d also like to thank the YCK supporters who have backed the club immensely, and specifically the Squad Builder who have contributed massively to us signing Ben.”
