Workington sign forward duo for 2020

Workington Town have announced the double signing of Conor Fitzsimmons and Marcus O’Brien for the 2020 season.

Fitzsimmons returns to the Betfred League 1 side, having spent time on-loan at Derwent Park in 2016. He made 22 appearances for the club before moving to Newcastle Thunder in 2017.

Meanwhile, powerful forward O’Brien departs National Conference side Egremont Rangers to make the step up to the professional game.

The pair will add further competition in the Town side as Head Coach Chris Thorman shapes his squad for next season’s promotion push.

“It’s important that our squad is made up of the best Cumbrian players and Marcus is certainly that,” Thorman said.

“After watching his games and speaking to his coaches, he was one of their best and most consistent performers. He has a fantastic attitude and is equally at home at hooker or in the back row.

“Conor is exactly the sort of player that Workington should be looking to recruit – a young, local lad that has proven himself at the top level.

“After speaking with Conor, I was very excited to hear how driven he was to be successful in the coming years.”
