Workington hunt for new coach

League 1 side Workington are looking for a new coach following the departure of Dave Clark.

It was confirmed last week that the former Barrow and South Wales coach will not be retained for 2018, after Town failed to make the play-offs.

He said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the coaching and back room staff, and the club chairman and supporters.

“We hit our top 8 target this season and I’m obviously disappointed that we couldn’t finish what we started but the club is taking a new direction and I wish them all the success in the future.”

Workington won nine games in the league following their relegation from the Championship.

Club chairman Garry Mounsey said: “Firstly I’d like to thank Dave for all of his hard work and endeavours in what was always going to be a challenging rebuilding season for the club.

“We’d like to thank him for his assistance in rebuilding the club on and off the pitch. We part on good terms and he goes with our very best wishes.

“The Board has stabilised the club finances and brought down a previously significant wage bill to sensible proportions, brought in some real local talent from the community game, worked hard on engagement with the community clubs in our area and significantly improved our media presence.

“Myself and the Board will spend the next couple of weeks planning for the future and we’ll keep our fantastic supporters appraised of progress.”
