Wood doubt for Sheffield

Kyle Wood is a major doubt for Sheffield Eagles after lasting just 12 minutes of last week’s 70-12 victory against Hunslet.

The Eagles half-back would be a major loss for Sheffield coach Mark Aston, who already has to deal with the distraction of playing at Mount St Mary’s, Spinkhill, rather than Bramall Lane or the Don Valley Stadium.

Luke Blake remains sidelined with broken ribs, but Dewsbury Rams coach Warren Jowitt has no other serious injury concerns.

“It’s just bumps and bruises,” he said. “There are likely to be a couple of changes, but I’ll make my mind up later in the week.”

Jowitt has told his squad to forget about the game’s unusual venue and has instead told them to focus on repeating their second half performance against Featherstone.

He said: “I’ve got to shield the players from the distractions surrounding the venue, and put that to the back of their minds.

“We got it right in the second half against Featherstone, and if we can carry that through against Sheffield then we’ll do OK.”
