Wolves academy pair step up

Warrington academy players Joe Philbin and Tom Walker will join the first team training squad ahead of next season.

Local second-rower Philbin played his junior rugby at Culcheth Eagles and Latchford Albion, and has progressed through the Wolves ranks over the past few years.

Prop forward Walker is a proud Cumbrian, and came through at Cockermouth Titans, and also had a spell at Workington.

Wolves head coach Tony Smith said: “It’s keeping in line with what we’ve done here for a long time now bringing the young players through to help develop them for their future. 

“I’m really excited about both these boys; they’ve had a tremendous season and we are looking forward to working with them on a full-time basis. 

“You’ve got to be pretty special to get the call-up; they’ve got that and I’m sure we’ll see them in the Warrington first team in years to come.”
